Class of 2020: Senior Sendoff

Jade Boerman is the only graduating senior in the Charleston Dance Center Class of 2020.

Jade will be attending Marymount Manhattan College in New York City with plans to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in dance with a concentration in choreography and a double major in psychology. In 2019, she earned a scholarship to the Radio City Rockettes Summer Intensive and after participating, her dream is to be a Radio City Rockette!

Q: What is your favorite Just Dance! memory?

Untitled design (10)A: Choosing one favorite memory from Just Dance is so hard. I feel like most of my best memories have been made at or because of the studio! I would probably have to say my top favorites include nationals every year for sure. Staying with my team and having the entire year of hard work payoff is so rewarding. Another favorite memory might have to be Wednesday night contemporary classes with Lindsey my first year as a senior company member!

Q: What is your advice to JD minis?

A: Work so much harder than you think you should in ballet. I know you probably all have days where you really are not feeling a ballet class but working hard now is going pay off more than you know when you get older!

Q: What is your advice to JD juniors (if different from above)?

A: As you’re getting older and patiently waiting for the email telling you that you’ve made the senior company, never lose sight of why you do what you do. Dance is a super competitive sport where we are constantly being told what we are doing wrong! Of course we would never get better if there was no one to correct us, but don’t let that discourage you and take away everything you have worked so hard for. Always remember to do what you love for yourself and nobody else. The moment I learned to pursue this for myself was the moment I fell in love with it!

Q: What was your favorite dance costume at JD? Why?

A: My favorite costume at Just Dance! might be my first solo costume. I don’t know if it’s just because it was my first solo and I was super excited or what.

Q: What was your least favorite dance costume at JD? Why?

A: My least favorite was 100% our Transylvania 6500 tap costume. The sleeves on that thing were so tight and sweaty quick changes at recital were a nightmare.

Overall, thank you Just Dance for giving me a place that I could come to be just as comfortable as I am at home. Dance and our studio have taught me so much that I wouldn’t trade for the world! I am so thankful to have spent the last seven years of my life making lifelong relationships and memories! I don’t know where I would be without Charleston Dance Center and I am forever grateful for everyone who has supported me!
