How Do Dance Competition Team Auditions Work?

Both new and returning dancers are required to audition.

It is important that dancers take the dance competition team audition seriously, but it should not be a stressful experience.

This is a closed audition and parents are not allowed to watch. Parents are not required to stay through the course of the dance team audition.

Each dancer is assigned a number and a group. Charleston Dance Center faculty will teach dancers a combo and give dancers an opportunity to practice. Dancers will audition in small groups in front of a panel of local judges who are not affiliated with Charleston Dance Center. No feedback is given.

Dancers age 10 and under will perform a jazz combo. Dancers age 11 and older should be prepared to do various styles of dance.

When the dancers have completed their audition, they are free to leave. Younger dancers can use the studio phone to call a parent or they can wait in the studio lobby.

What Should Dancers Wear?

Most dancers will wear a leotard (no tights necessary) or a crop top and shorts or leggings. Most dancers will have very light make-up and hair pulled back from the face.

Dancers age 10 and under should wear jazz shoes if he/she has them. If not, barefoot is fine.

Dancers 11 and older should be prepared to do various styles of dance.

When Will Results Be Announced?

Just Dance! directors will review the judge’s scores and feedback after auditions. Parents will receive an email as soon as decisions have been made, usually within one week.

It is possible that a dancer will notified he/she made either Company or Collective and specific teams will be determined after summer intensives.

Just Dance! Mini Mini team and Company dancers are required to attend summer intensives, which will be held July 31-August 4, 2023. Just Dance! Collective dancers are required to attend boot camp, which will be held July 25-27, 2023.
